Sgt Thornhill
I want to wish you a happy birthday from an old United States Marine. Please accept my sincerest thanks and untold appreciation for the gift that you have given to my family. I can not repay the cost of what you’ve paid for me or my family. I can only tell you that I do not let the sun set without putting my arms around my two young daughters and hold them tight. All the while I’m consciously telling myself that I owe this moment, this feeling of pure joy, this gift that has been shielded from the harms of the world to all the men and women like you that have paid for it with everything. I put my arms around them for all my brothers and sisters in service that can not put their arms around their own children each night. You are the reason I can do this and I will never forget nor be able to repay you for that gift.
I as many of us former veterans suffer from extreme anxiety and at times deep depression. Anger, fear, frustration and confusion have caused me many years of questioning the fairness of life. I have learned that we are but links in a chain. The chain of life began long before us and will continue on for many thousands of years to come. And you have been chosen to be one of the strongest links that will hold all others together. You are a special. An especially chosen person for a purpose much higher than any of us can truly understand or recognize at this point in time. You have been chosen to become a part of something much bigger. Please be PROUD, as your contribution means EVERYTHING to so many. Many of which may never even realize it. But there will always be people who do and forever people will know.
