Let's get Shredding!!

I am a bit of a talk radio junkie so when I heard the topic of a show I listen to was Shredding the things you don't like in you life I started to listen more intently. The idea is to make a list and put it in the shredder. Sort of like making a resolution but mostly like dumping things you don't like. I like this idea better. I was never to good at the resolution thing anyway. So here is my list. You are welcome to use the shredder too if you like.

Bailouts and corruption
Politics
Hot flashes (sorry but they do blow)
Loud people
Stupid drivers
The IT guy at work
The sink hole in my front yard
Messy people
My cat's back claws
The webex meeting at work
Hot flashes (these are going through twice)
Ignorant, arrogant & nasty people

Hmm, lots of people on this list. I digress. I believe I could easily live in a world of animals.
Now on the the new year!

12 Days of Christmas - Marine Style

This is the unit Cpl Red is assigned to but he is currently in a different location in Iraq. Too bad it would have been fun to see him in this little production.

But it's a dry cold.

Yea, so it is 37 degrees here in the desert. Now I know that's probably warm for Alaska but this is not what we are used to. Oh, I know it's Global Warming. That's why Las Vegas is getting snow again. We have a chance for snow and it would be nice to get a little bit. We had a fire for the first time yesterday so I think I need some more wood.

It was nice and peaceful yesterday. I got a call from Cpl Red in Iraq thanking me for the big A** card. He really liked it. I was glad to make him happy.

Stay warm everyone.

Remember Them

While I was visiting Arkansas Army Mom's Blog I watched this video. It is a good reminded to not forget of troops serving abroad away from their families. My nephew, Cpl Red is one of those. Merry Christmas, miss you, God Bless and stay safe. Crafty, thinking about you...

Waiting for the Explosion

LCpl Honda returned home for the holidays last night. I sometimes wonder if he really is a Marine or is just pulling the wool over our eyes. I do believe that they are taught in boot camp to be meticulous about themselves and their belongings.

Last time he was here I would find dishes left around, lights left on and of course the strange phenomenon of the exploding sea bag. I wonder if anyone else experiences this? It all started when he returned home from boot camp.I remember walking in the bedroom and being dumbfounded at the sight. First, how do they get all the stuff in one bag? Second, what is all that stuff? I know he left with nothing much but the clothes on his back. When did he have time to accumulate all of it? As I surveyed the mountain of pens, toothpaste, little tie things etc. I had a horrifying thought. What if he left it here? Well thankfully he did not. When I took him to the airport after his leave was up, he did indeed take everything with him. In fact he ran into another Marine who had been to boot camp with him and the guy remarked about all the bags he was returning with. hmmm. Also when he was at home for Thanksgiving he tried to blame these things on the buddy he brought home. hmm...hmm

Well I woke up in the middle of the night and found the Christmas tree lights on, TV on and a lamp on. I fear it has started again. Didn't look in his room for the sea bag, but i have a feeling it's there. Waiting.

2020 Olympics - Maybe Not But...

Well we went to see Butterfly perform in her gymnastic event. Overall I was impressed by all these kids running, jumping, tumbling and just having a good time. Some were better than others but what stood out was each and every one of them were having a great time! The coaches made sure each child was a star and I do believe the kids for few moments felt they were.

Yes, there were some stage parents around ie: one woman pulling down her daughter's skirt while the kid was warming up in favor of the kid wearing shorts instead. huh? The same parent telling her other kids to:
Mom: be back in 10 minutes (they wanted to play in the jumping castle outside)
Kid: how will we know when 10 minutes are up?
Mom: just figure it out!
Kids: looking perplexed...
Mom: I'll send your uncle out to get you

I think I will just leave this one alone, but I will say I think Mom maybe could have benefited from some gymnastic exercises too.

It was hard to get close but I did get a few good pics.

This is Butterfly before starting on the bar.

This is Butterfly on the bar.

This is Butterfly receiving her trophy and t-shirt on the podium

This is Butterfly with her trophy. You go girl!!!!!

Of course we can't forget Lollypop Kid. He is enjoying his cheez-its after attending the event. I think he gave is Dad, Tango the best workout of all! He even helped me take a few pics.

Just let me say that I am pleased to see my Butterfly spread her wings. Her road has been tough and we are fortunate to have her here. I will elaborate sometime soon.

Friday Food - Onion Blossoms?

Ok, so my friend L at work was talking to me about going out to eat at Texas Roadhouse the other day. Of course my interest peaked because I thought another copycat recipe! She said they ordered Onion Blossoms. I thought what the heck is that? So of course I have the trusty Google ready and waiting. I came across a couple of recipes and since my curiosity got the better of me I had to try one. One is fried and one is baked. For the sake of healthy eating I tried the baked one. Now it was ok except I only had a red onion and a yellow onion. So I figured what the heck. The purple one sort of turned out like the pic above and the yellow one just sort of sat there refusing to open and they also weren't exactly as breaded as much as I would have liked. I can say both were flavorful, but a little hot to the taste. Corvette liked them but went looking for the Zantac right away. hmm...

The baked one is here. The fried one is here. I am not sure if I should even try the fried one. If anyone has tried it please let me know. I wanted to serve one as an appetizer at ThanksChristmas but I don't want a houseful of heartburn casualties.

Anyway, I am off to see Butterfly perform in her first gymnastic expedition. Can you say Nastia Liukin or Shawn Johnson? Summer Games 2020? You never know... I will post on that later.

Also, I know I missed last Friday but I figured everyone probably had enough leftovers and did not even need a new recipe.
